SPocc Summer News Letter

The Society of Parents of Children with Cancer

provides support and understanding for parents from

diagnosis and throughout treatment, through contact with

other families in a similar position.

If you have just learned that your child has cancer you

may feel a deep sense of despair. What you should

know is that for the majority of children there is every

hope for a cure

. The success rate for many cancers is

improving each year and with this grows the hope of parents

for a cure for their children. If you have any problems

or questions about your child and their treatment, by

far the best people to ask are the medical or social work

staff at the hospital.

However there may be

times when you seek other

Obviously this is a very emotional issue and we are very aware

of how deeply upsetting it can be to see these names of

children we have got to know and cherish, and how difficult it

is for newly diagnosed families to be confronted with such

Celebrating the wedding of

: Cherry Hooper and Ian Kent on

As an alternative to the traditional gift list, we would like to use this

special family occasion to raise funds for a charity that we have a

personal connection with. The Society of Parents of Children with Cancer

(SPoCC) were one of the most memorable charities that supported the

Hooper family, especially during the years when James was making

frequent visits to Birmingham Children's Hospital.

They offer invaluable support to children with cancer and their families

during difficult times. They also know how to have fun together! :-)

Cherry has fond memories of trips to France with SPoCC families as well

as days out around the Midlands.

This allowed them to meet other families in similar situations and make

lifelong friends. This is a cause that is dear to our hearts, and we would

very much like to support their ongoing work so that future families can

find some comfort, understanding and also have such fun times together

on trips away.

James is really looking forward to this big family celebration on

27th October and his important role as usher!

Lots of love

Cherry & Ian

This means that along with less donations coming in

SPoCC’s funds have depreciated rapidly.

really appreciate it.
